DOORSTEP
One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone- Shannon L. Alder
Here at Doorstep we are committed to spreading our message of hope and compassion throughout this difficult transition to life caused by Covid-19. We believe that in coming together as a community and supporting one another, no obstacle is insurmountable. Through volunteer delivery services at absolutely NO CHARGE, our team works tirelessly each day to contribute their part to the greater good. Our goal is to promote the safety and well being of all members of the community, especially those most vulnerable. We do so by ensuring that everyone has access to groceries and medications without having to risk exposure to the virus by leaving the comfort of their own homes.
DOORSTEP AT A GLANCE
The idea behind Doorstep came one random morning when my mom got home from Walmart. She mentioned how dirty everything was and how she felt very uncomfortable and on edge the whole time she was there. She also noted the large number of senior citizens that were also in Walmart and exposed to the unsanitary environment. The immediate thought in my head was why would these elderly people even go out to Walmart and risk exposure to Covid-19. Then, the reality dawned on me that there is a large population of elderly people and people with pre-existing conditions in world who do not have other friends or family members who can go out and get these people their basic necessities like groceries and medicine. If this is true of the world, it must be true of the local Jackson, Madison County area as well. From this realization came the formation of Doorstep. Doorstep is a local organization comprised of primarily younger volunteers who provide the most vulnerable members of the Jackson, Madison County community with an opportunity to have access to groceries and medications without having to risk their health in the process. Our volunteers will go out and bring both groceries and medication straight to your "doorsteps." As our logo highlights, the organization is dependent on teamwork and working as a single cohesive unit. The future vision for Doorstep is that we would get volunteers in multiple cities and counties which would allow our organization to extend beyond the Jackson, Madison County area.
